Release Week: Sean Ferrell's Man in the Empty Suit, Spider Robinson's The Free Lunch, Manil Suri's The City of Devi, and Neal Asher's The Departure

Posted on 2013-02-06 at 14:39 by Sam

Led by an intriguing concurrent new release, the first release week of February also brings an author-narrated science fiction novel a bit over 10 years in the waiting since its print publication, several other good-looking concurrent release titles, another big haul of Audible Frontiers titles, and, of course, the next installment in John Scalzi's The Human Division, A Voice in the Wilderness: The Human Division, Episode 4. Of course, no release week would be complete without my "seen but not heard

Release Week: Jay Lake's Kalimpura, James P. Blaylock's The Aysleford Skull, Norse Code, and (of course) another episode of The Human Division

Posted on 2013-01-30 at 19:43 by Sam

Now that's what I'm talking about -- an absolutely monstrous release week, with a long list of concurrent new releases, exciting previously released books coming to audio for the first time, and even another haul of Dungeons and Dragons audiobooks. And that's just the past few days -- already this week had brought us Norse Code by Greg van Eekhout and The Disaster Diaries by Sam Sheridan, and of course it also brings the next installment of John Scalzi's The Human Division, with We Only Need the Heads: The

Release Week: The Human Division, Glamour in Glass, Shades of Earth, Rage is Back, and Impulse

Posted on 2013-01-16 at 20:41 by Sam

Well, it's the middle of January and 2013 is getting into full swing, and though there's not a big crop of highlight-reel concurrent releases this week, one of my most-missing titles of 2012 is here, along with the first installment of John Scalzi's serial novel The Human Division. Also: at the bottom, three five more "Whispersync for Voice" deals I stumbled across this week.

The Human Division gets underway with a double-length (bit under 2.5 hours) first episode, The B-Team: The Human Division, Episode 1

Release Week: Thieftaker, Gun Machine, Great North Road, and Scoundrels

Posted on 2013-01-02 at 03:29 by Sam

Well here it is, the first release week of 2013 -- though most of this week's haul do herald from 2012. There's historical fantasy, Warren Ellis, an epic-length sf novel from Peter F. Hamilton, and a new Timothy Zahn Star Wars novel. And, at the bottom, another Whispersync for Voice price quirk. And, don't forget! The currently running Audible Holiday Sale ends on Wednesday, January 2, at 11:59 PM ET. And come back soon as Dave and I are trying to cobble together our year-in-review. Happy New Year! Next

Release Week: Alchemystic, The Ramal Extraction, Half Life, and more

Posted on 2012-12-28 at 03:41 by Sam

The last release week (though not quite the last releases) of the year brings a few interesting titles, but all in all a quiet week.

Alchemystic: A Spellmason Chronicle, Book 1 by Anton Strout, narrated by Linda Borg for Audible, Inc. -- Length: 9 hrs and 38 mins. Out in the early fall in print/ebook from Ace: "Alexandra Belarus is a struggling artist living in New York City, even though her family is rich in real estate, including a towering Gothic Gramercy Park building built by her great-great

Release Week: Falling Kingdoms, Tears of Rain, Joel Rosenberg, and Dean Ing

Posted on 2012-12-12 at 16:01 by Sam

The second release week in December sees another avalanche of titles from Audible Frontiers (over a dozen from Mike Resnick alone) along with a few new books of interest as well.

Falling Kingdoms: Falling Kingdoms, Book 1 By Morgan Rhodes, Narrated By Fred Berman for Penguin Audio -- Length: 11 hrs and 35 mins. "In a land where magic has been forgotten but peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest is simmering. Three kingdoms grapple for power - brutally transforming their subjects' lives in the

Release Week: The Testament of Jessie Lamb, A Red Sun Also Rises, and Shadow and Bone

Posted on 2012-12-05 at 18:02 by Sam

The first release week in December brings an Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning novel, along with the latest from Mark Hodder and a much-anticipated young adult release, and, well, a few dozen more audiobooks, besides. The most missing audiobook this week for me is a debut novel, Ink, by Damien Walters Grintalis. (More on those after the avalanche of new audiobooks.)

The Testament of Jessie Lamb: A Novel By Jane Rogers, Narrated by Fiona Hardingham for Blackstone Audio -- Length: 8 hrs and 15 mins. Published

Release Week: The Rise of Ransom City, The Dresden Files, The Iron Druid Chronicles, and City of Dark Magic

Posted on 2012-11-28 at 14:49 by Sam

The last Tuesday in November brings new books in beloved series, as well as a Conan O'Brien-blurbed romp through a fantastical Prague. Still, it's another sequel which most catches my eye, and another sequel (Hannu Rajaniemi's The Fractal Prince) which I'm most disappointed to not see in audio this week.

That most-anticipated title for me this week is The Rise of Ransom City: The Half-Made World, Book 2 By Felix Gilman, Narrated by Ramon De Ocampo and Gregory Itzin for Audible Frontiers -- Length: 14 hrs

Release Week: Cooper's The Creative Fire, McDevitt/Resnick's The Cassanda Project, Brandon Sanderson's The Emperor's Soul, Alice Hoffman's Practical Magic, and more

Posted on 2012-11-07 at 15:16 by Sam

November gets off to a big start, with a long list of noteworthy releases, four of which I'll highlight at a little more length, and several more worth checking out as well. (Meanwhile, my "most missing" this fairly busy week is Allen Steele's Apollo's Outcasts, out in hardcover and ebook from Pyr.)

The Creative Fire: Book One of Ruby's Song By Brenda Cooper, Narrated by Yetta Gottesman for Audible Frontiers -- Length: 13 hrs and 27 mins. Out in print and ebook from Pyr, it's a book I was very excited to

Release Week: A Sudden Outbreak of Magic, Ruins, and a Neil Gaiman gift edition and charity short

Posted on 2012-10-31 at 17:43 by Sam

The last release week in October has a few intriguing new titles, along with a new "gift edition" of Neil Gaiman's Stardust and, as Dave already mentioned, a free short story by Gaiman as well.

A Sudden Outbreak of Magic: Contagious Magic By Michael Jasper, Narrated by Alyson Grauer is the one I've been waiting on the longest. At 8 hrs and 16 mins it is the first book in a series, in which book two is out in print and ebook, and book three is coming soon. I've been following the route of this book from
