Well, we had been taking it a bit slow in terms of review copies over the summer, a few each month. But we pretty much gorged as October rolled around. Something in the air? So, in that ongoing interest in full disclosure and all that, here are:

I haven't done a "received" post in a while, so in the interest of openness and acknowledgement, here's what we've asked for and received this summer.

JUNE 2013

The Planet Thieves by Dan Krokos, read by Kirby Heywood for Blackstone Audio (Sam) -- I wasn't entirely sure of the age range for this one, which ended up being somewhere in between young reader and young adult. We don't have the wide-eyed innocence of childhood or (thankfully) the jaded apathy of too many YA novels. Instead it's an adventure for

Another quiet month in the received column, as for the most part I still have a good backlog in the to-listen and to-review piles already. Still, there were a few things we couldn't resist asking for:

  1. HACHETTE AUDIO: The Player of Games by Iain M. Banks; and Promise of Blood by Brian McClellan (Dave's current listen as of this posting):

The Player of Games Promise of Blood

  1. HARPER AUDIO: The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker, read by George Guidall -- this one was wonderful, a magical delight of a book and audiobook:

I took it pretty easy on the review copy front in April, to the tune of three titles:

  1. No Return by Zachary Jernigan, read by John FitzGibbon for Audible Frontiers.
No Return | [Zachary Jernigan]

This is one I finished listening to a couple of week ago now, so here's a snippet of my review, A stunning and original debut fantasy: "In a crowded year of strong debut fantasy novels, "No Return" is a very strong contender. Beginning with an assured voice, a prologue of a pitiless landscape of an hallucinogenic salt lake, expanding out

March was a bit quiet in terms of review copies, as I felt too embarrassed by my months-long backlog of reviews to ask for too many more to add to the pile. Still, a few I couldn't resist:

  1. Harper Audio, Dreams and Shadows by C. Robert Cargill, read by Vikas Adam. I'd just listened to Vikas Adam as one of two narrators for Manil Suri's The City of Devi and he was again quite, quite good in this slow-building but high-payoff urban fantasy, which sets the world of the Fae, with glamour, changelings, the

I'm still working through a few of the January incoming, but I've also already had a chance to listen to a few of these titles which were sent our way in February:

1. Digital ARC of The Rift Walker (Vampire Empire, Book Two) by Clay and Susan Griffith, read by James Marsters for Buzzy Multimedia:

"A worthy successor in story, narration and production for the Audie-nominated The Greyfriar. James Marsters as a cast of vampires could not be more perfect." -- The
