Ever Felt Like a Convention Wanted to Kill You? -- Dave Reviews I Am Providence
Posted on 2017-08-31 at 04:57 by Dave
I Am Providence
By Nick Mamatas, Narrated by Joel Richards and Rachel Jacobs
Length: 8 hours, 58 minutes
[Audible]
The first convention I ever went to was San Diego Comic Con, right around 1998. It was a huge deal, but you could still buy tickets easily enough and you didn't have to camp out overnight waiting to get into the panels. But it was enormous, and it was crowded. The second convention I went to was a small SF/F/H literary con also in San Diego, where the panels averaged about 10-20 guests. I

Cyber Monday #WhispersyncDeal roundup: Seveneves, The Hunger Games, 1984, The Forever War, Flowers for Algernon, The Muralist, Octavia Butler, and more

Today's "Cyber Monday" Kindle Daily Deals listings number in the hundreds -- over 400, actually. It's a lot to look through, especially with the wonky "paging" (with no apparent "see all" or category search links!) for the sale. But, have no fear! As I did just recently with the monthly November #WhispersyncDeal roundup, which is still ongoing through Wednesday so don't miss that, either, I took a glance through and found the best deals on the best books. Here we go:
Seveneves: A Novel by Neal

Audible's latest members-only "Win-Win" sale
Posted on 2016-09-25 at 17:57 by Sam
I had such plans for this month, to get the #WhispersyncDeal roundup out early, and then, well, more and more deals just kept needing to be added, and then this deal rolled out. So, before it's entirely too late instead of nearly, and before I get to the more "regularly scheduled" Whispersync deals, first up this month is my top 18 picks from a glance through Audible's Members-Only "Win-Win" sale, with over 200 titles for just $4.95 each. The sale ends September 26, 2016 at 11:59 PM PT (US) so as of this

Downpour's 100-title science fiction $5.95 audiobook sale: Ian McDonald's Luna: New Moon, Molly Tanzer's Vermilion, Cory Doctorow, Jeff VanderMeer, Ray Bradbury, and more:
Posted on 2016-07-25 at 02:39 by Sam
In Downpour's 100-book $5.95 Sci-Fi sale there are dozens of highly-rated and recommended titles. Here's what most caught my eye, from a quartet of great titles from 2015, to Cory Doctorow, Jeff VanderMeer, Catherine Asaro, Walter Mosley, Jane Rogers, and Brenda Cooper, to classics from Ray Bradbury and Walter M. Miller. (If you really love classic sf there's plenty of Heinlein and Bova to peruse as well.)
Happy $5.95 deal-hunting! But don't wait too long, this sale ends July 31.

March WhispersyncDeal roundup: A Head Full of Ghosts, A Dirty Job, Three, Anno Dracula, Kurt Vonnegut, Tibetan Peach Pie, Scott Lynch's The Lies of Locke Lamora, and more
Posted on 2016-03-21 at 17:37 by Sam
This one's coming later in the month than I'd like, but I've been dumping my free time into Tom Clancy's The Division and listening with rapt attention to Simon Vance's narration of We, the Drowned. Of the 164 Whispersync-enabled titles in this month's Monthly Deals for $3.99 or Less listings, there's the usual crop of uninteresting (to me!) and the "not quite a deal, actually" titles. And then there are these gems, which I hope you (and your wallet) enjoy:
A Head Full of Ghosts: A Novel by Paul

Audible is having a big $5.95 members-only sale with over 200 titles, across science fiction and fantasy, non-fiction, YA, classics, and more:
And 200+ titles are a lot to page through. Here's what I most recommend from the sale, but hurry! The sale ends March 6, 2016 at 11:59 PM PT (US).
The Fifth Season: The Broken Earth, Book 1 by N.K. Jemisin, read by Robin Miles, and Aurora by Kim Stanley Robinson, read by Ali Ahn, both for Hachette Audio -- Wait, WHAT? These are the two best fantasy and science

Audible's "Big Thanks" Sale through December 16: from under $5 to just under a credit, here's some fantastic picks from the members-only 50% off sale
Posted on 2015-12-14 at 02:57 by Sam
UPDATE 2017-12-07: Yup, I’m “re-using” this post yet again for Audible’s latest members-only 50% off sale, which ends in one week, on December 14, 2017 at 11:59 PM PT (US). Don't be confused by either last year's sale end date (December 14, 2016) or the year before that's sale end date (December 16, 2015) and miss out. As you can see, there’s quite a bit on sale, and each year, the list keeps growing!

Downpour's "Black Friday" sale ends tonight: Samuel R, Delany, Women Destroy Science Fiction, Kim Stanley Robinson, Jeff VanderMeer, new releases, pre-orders, rentals, and more
Posted on 2015-12-03 at 20:23 by Sam
I mentioned this already near the end of last month's #WhispersyncDeal roundup, but I figured I would expand things a bit and offer up one last reminder that Downpour.com's "Black Friday" sale extended well beyond the one day, and finally does end tonight (Thursday, December 3). There's plenty of titles well below credit cost, and pre-orders (!!) and rentals are also included. One I’d recommend, right off the bat?
