August #WhispersyncDeal roundup: Max Gladstone's Craft Sequence, Alex Bledsoe's Wisp of a Thing, Marko Kloos, Alan Cumming, Tim Powers, and much more

Posted on 2016-08-30 at 16:7 by Sam

August is almost over, which means it's #WhispersyncDeal roundup time! Before I get to the regular Monthly Deals in Kindle Books and 50 Kindle Book Deals for $2 Each listings, and the huge list of titles in Audible's "3 years of daily deals" sale, though, a completely separate deal headlines my picks this month:

Per Tor and Tor.com editor Marco Palmieri, Max Gladstone's Craft Sequence is moving from Tor Books to Tor.com Publishing, and the series-wide $4.99 sale continues through August. The bad news is

March WhispersyncDeal roundup: A Head Full of Ghosts, A Dirty Job, Three, Anno Dracula, Kurt Vonnegut, Tibetan Peach Pie, Scott Lynch's The Lies of Locke Lamora, and more

This one's coming later in the month than I'd like, but I've been dumping my free time into Tom Clancy's The Division and listening with rapt attention to Simon Vance's narration of We, the Drowned. Of the 164 Whispersync-enabled titles in this month's Monthly Deals for $3.99 or Less listings, there's the usual crop of uninteresting (to me!) and the "not quite a deal, actually" titles. And then there are these gems, which I hope you (and your wallet) enjoy:

A Head Full of Ghosts: A Novel by Paul

November #WhispersyncDeal roundup: A Calculated Life, Off to Be the Wizard, The Broken Sword, I Am Princess X, Ella Enchanted, and more, and! a glance through Audible's "Treat Yourself" sale, and! Downpour.com's Black Friday sale (UPDATED)

Posted on 2015-11-27 at 5:31 by Sam

As promised, you've got more than 48 hours this time! But there's a lot to look over, as among the 299 Whispersync for Voice-enabled Monthly Deals in Kindle Books there's a good-sized pile that catch my eye this month. And! Through December 2, there's additionally a very nice "Treat Yourself" sale on a big pile of audiobooks as well, and I have a glance through those titles below, followed by a really, really quick mention of Downpour.com's Black Friday sale through December 3.

First, though, the usual

Another roundup pushing up against the end-of-the-month wire, so let's jump right in with the deals expiring at the end of the month.

First up, a roundup of what most caught my eye of the 189 Whispersync-for-Voice-enabled titles in this month's $3.99 or Less listings, mostly in science fiction and fantasy but a few fiction, teen, children's, and mystery titles as well:

Bloodchild: And Other Stories by Octavia E. Butler (Author), Janina Edwards (Narrator) for $2.99+$3.49 -- This one's been in the

Release Week: Mira Grant's Symbiont, Brandon Sanderson's Legion: Skin Deep, Tobias Buckell's Mitigated Futures, and Bronson Pinchot reading David Drake's Grimmer Than Hell

Posted on 2014-12-03 at 6:43 by Sam

NOVEMBER 19-25, 2014: An overall very, very quiet week in publishing, but with a standout concurrent new release (Mira Grant's Symbiont), two glimmering backlist collections (Buckell and Drake), the return of Sanderson's Legion (for free! read by Oliver Wyman again!), and a few more titles well worth noting (an indie fantasy superstar in the making in Jacob Cooper, anthologies Robot Uprisings and Night Shift, Bernard Cornwell's Grail Quest novels, Costello and Hautala's Star Road, and a huge pile of Akashic

September Whispersync Deal Roundup

Posted on 2014-09-12 at 14:45 by Sam

Out with the deals of August and in with the deals of September! As usual, the daily #WhispersyncDeal posts on Facebook/Twitter cover the more ephemeral deals, but here's some titles to check out all September long -- but first, some deals that either end today (Friday) or in a week:

The King in Yellow | [Robert W. Chambers] Annihilation: Southern Reach Trilogy, Book 1 | [Jeff VanderMeer]

Today (Friday) only, Open Road Media has set the ebook price for their edition of Robert W. Chambers' The King in Yellow to "free". This edition is Whispersync for Voice enabled with the fantastic Blackstone Audio

Posted on 2014-02-20 at 18:19 by Sam

FEBRUARY 12-18, 2013: A packed week this week, both in terms of releases and news. New audiobooks range from magical realism (Alice Hoffman's The Museum of Extraordinary Things) to space sf (David Weber's Like a Mighty Army) to dystopian sf (Metro 2034 and Z 2135) to the London-set urban fantasy of Ben Aaronovitch and the Russia-set urban fantasy of Sergei Lukyanenko, to backlist audiobooks from Tricia Sullivan and H. Beam Piper, and plenty more including sf from Ian Whates and Joel Shepherd, Arthurian

Release Week: Shovel Ready, The Emperor's Blades, Alex Bledsoe's Eddie LaCrosse, Shawn Speakman's The Dark Thorn, Gateways, and Clive Barker's The Books of Blood

Posted on 2014-01-15 at 20:23 by Sam

JANUARY 8-14, 2014: This week the name of the game is "fantasy", though near-future noir (Shovel Ready), the latest Peter Clines (Ex-Purgatory, read by Jay Snyder), classic sf from Asimov (read by Scott Brick) and Vonda McIntyre (read by Gayle Hendrix), and most singularly the Frederik Pohl tribute anthology Gateways (read by the voice of Pohl's Gateway, Oliver Wyman) do make for a more diverse range of offerings. But the lion's share of my picks this week? There are swords, there are blades, there are

AUGUST 21-27, 2013: It's quite a release week haul this week: a powerful debut in the form of Jason Mott's The Returned, the return of Neil Gaiman Presents with another full cast "illuminated production" in Ellen Kushner's Riverside series, a pair of Recorded Books titles first published in print by Orbit Books earlier this year, a concurrent new release read by one of the best narrators in the business, and a star-studded all-original anthology set in Gene Wolfe's New Sun milieu. And! There's several more

The Orbital Drop, Whispersync for Voice, and SFSignal's impressive ebook deals list

Posted on 2013-07-10 at 2:42 by Sam

I've posted fairly frequently about Whispersync for Voice deals, and one sure source for finding new ones is following Orbit Books' The Orbital Drop ebook deals, which each month "drops" the price on one or more ebooks in Orbit's catalog -- this month the titles include T.C. McCarthy's Germline and Mira Grant's Feed. Another pretty good source is watching for sequels or new follow-on books in a series, and checking to see if maybe the publisher has dropped the price on book one to try to tempt people to
