The 33 most missing audiobooks of 2014

Posted on 2015-01-17 at 6:12 by Sam

Three thousand two hundred sixty-seven. That's how many science fiction and fantasy audiobooks were added to Audible.com's US listings alone in 2014, and the larger number of new speculative fiction audiobooks -- which include GraphicAudio, independent (for example The Maze of Games and Eric Flint's "Islands"), and other titles not available at Audible (for example Cory Doctorow's Homeland and Information Doesn't Want to Be Free), physical-only releases, podiobooks, and English-language audiobooks released

Release Week: Ted Chiang's Stories of Your Life and Others, Glen Duncan's By Blood We Live, Iain Banks' Matter, and Octavia Butler's Patternmaster and Imago

FEBRUARY 5-11, 2014: While much more quiet in terms of quantity -- in particular in concurrent new releases, as apparently every publisher had the same "FEBRUARY 4 OR BUST" idea this year -- there's some absolutely exquisite quality in this week's audiobooks haul, led by Ted Chiang's 2002 collection Stories of Your Life and Others, along with backlist titles from Iain Banks and Octavia Butler, and the only week delayed conclusion in audio for Glen Duncan's Last Werewolf trilogy, By Blood We Live. Highlights

Release Week: Tad Williams, Steven Erikson, Iain M. Banks, and The Lord of the Rings

Posted on 2012-10-10 at 15:7 by Sam

What the second release week in October lacks in the staggering numbers department, it makes up for with three absolutely stellar titles: urban fantasy from Tad Williams, the latest Iain M. Banks “Culture” novel, and the long-awaited first audio installment of Steven Erikson’s Malazan Book of the Fallen epic fantasy series. And! The long-awaited digital audio release of the Rob Inglis narrations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

I’ve bemoaned the US audiobook absence of The Dirty

Another peek overseas at Audible UK and the digital divide

Posted on 2012-04-09 at 15:46 by Sam

Early last month, I wrote a bit about the regional digital divide, which sees Audible UK members having some excellent sf/f titles which Audible US members don’t have access to, from Elspeth Cooper’s debut Songs of the Earth, to The Scar: New Crobuzon, Book 2 and Iron Council: New Crobuzon, Book 3 By China Mieville, to Rivers of London and Moon Over Soho By Ben Aaronovitch, to Blue Remembered Earth By Alastair Reynolds, and more. Well, since last month, two more bits of digital regional divide-related
