SEPTEMBER 17-23, 2014: Whew! It's been a busy couple of weeks, and this release week roundup is more than a week late. But! I can't do my usual trick of combining two weeks into one roundup, because there's just too many great titles coming out here as summer turns to fall. This week: a full review of John Darnielle's affecting Wolf in White Van, along with picks from YA (Scott Westerfeld's Afterworlds) and horror (Lauren Oliver's adult debut Rooms and Grady Hendrix's bizarre and aptly-published-by-Quirk

JUNE 11-17, 2014: There is an absolute avalanche of outstanding audio this week, comprised mostly of audiobooks we've been anticipating for a good while now, but led by a breathtaking surprise: Terry Bisson's 1993 collection Bears Discover Fire and Other Stories. There's high-end sf (Cibola Burn, The Long Mars, On the Steel Breeze), there's historically-set fantasy (The Quick), there's comedic fantasy (Spell or High Water) and urban fantasy (Shattered, Half-Off Ragnarok) and an sf/thriller hyrbid (A Better

Everyone has their own lists, but here’s ours: what we're most looking forward to this month, in chronological order of release, with audiobook information if we know about it. (I tried holding the list to 10 as I managed for last month's preview, but after a second pass cutting as much as I was close to happy with, I was still in the 30s. Trimming further to 25 was hard enough!)

Sam reviews: The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter, Read by Michael Fenton-Stevens for Harper Audio

The Long Earth: A Novel | [Terry Pratchett, Stephen Baxter]

The Long Earth: A Novel by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter (2012) Read by Michael Fenton-Stevens (2012) for Harper Audio (review copy)

Review by Sam: I'm completely of two minds on this audiobook. First, and this is not one of those minds but rather a comment, there isn't quite the humor and wit as in Pratchett's Discworld books, but then again this isn't at all that kind of story. It's a story that's more earnest than that, not a send-up or pastiche of the kind of novel it pretends to be on the
