Via Booklist Online, the 2014 Audies Finalists have been announced. My first thoughts are 1. that I'm thrilled to see Kim Stanley Robinson's Shaman named as a finalist in the Science Fiction category. And 2, I can't recall a previous year with such a broad base of audio publishers. The big 5/6 and Amazon's imprints, along with independents both big (Recorded Books, Blackstone, Tantor, and GraphicAudio) and small: Podium (who continues to produce an extremely high quality of well-curated and well-cast

I knew it, I just knew I should have checked earlier in the day, but, well, I was stinking busy. Still, it's not too late to snap up one of the best books and audiobooks of the year. Shaman: a novel of the Ice Age by Kim Stanley Robinson is today's sf/f Kindle Daily Deal at $2.99, and offers a $4.99 Whispersync upgrade to the absolutely masterful Graeme Malcolm narration at Audible.

Release Week: Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam, Kim Stanley Robinson's Shaman, Toby Barlow's Babayaga, and Seanan McGuire's Chimes at Midnight

Posted on 2013-09-04 at 19:5 by Sam

AUGUST 28-SEPTEMBER 3, 2013: September kicks off with two of my most anticipated titles of the year, Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam and Kim Stanley Robinson's Shaman. It also brings news from The Hugo Awards at this weekend's World Science Fiction Convention in San Antonio, where Mur Lafferty (The Shambling Guide to New York City) won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Author, and John Scalzi's Redshirts was named Best Novel. This week does not, however, bring all the audiobooks that were hoped for: in
