January #WhispersyncDeal roundup: Aldous Huxley, Meg Elison, Jacqueline Carey, Alex Bledsoe, Clive Barker, and more

Posted on 2017-01-31 at 0:4 by Sam

The first #WhispersyncDeal roundup of 2017 is here! As usual I'll run down my picks among this month's Whispersync-for-voice-enabled Monthly Deals in Kindle Books, also known now as eBooks with Audible Narration, of which there are 536 to scan through this month. Well, I'm going to keep calling them "Whispersync deals", and here's what most caught my eye and ear this month; don't wait too long as these deals expire on January 31:

Island by [Huxley, Aldous] The Book of the Unnamed Midwife (The Road to Nowhere 1) by [Elison, Meg]

Island by Aldous Huxley, read by Simon Vance for Tantor Audio for $1.99+$3

August #WhispersyncDeal roundup: Max Gladstone's Craft Sequence, Alex Bledsoe's Wisp of a Thing, Marko Kloos, Alan Cumming, Tim Powers, and much more

Posted on 2016-08-30 at 16:7 by Sam

August is almost over, which means it's #WhispersyncDeal roundup time! Before I get to the regular Monthly Deals in Kindle Books and 50 Kindle Book Deals for $2 Each listings, and the huge list of titles in Audible's "3 years of daily deals" sale, though, a completely separate deal headlines my picks this month:

Per Tor and Tor.com editor Marco Palmieri, Max Gladstone's Craft Sequence is moving from Tor Books to Tor.com Publishing, and the series-wide $4.99 sale continues through August. The bad news is

The 2014 Audie Award finalists have been announced

Posted on 2014-02-19 at 15:33 by Sam

Via Booklist Online, the 2014 Audies Finalists have been announced. My first thoughts are 1. that I'm thrilled to see Kim Stanley Robinson's Shaman named as a finalist in the Science Fiction category. And 2, I can't recall a previous year with such a broad base of audio publishers. The big 5/6 and Amazon's imprints, along with independents both big (Recorded Books, Blackstone, Tantor, and GraphicAudio) and small: Podium (who continues to produce an extremely high quality of well-curated and well-cast

Release Week: Shovel Ready, The Emperor's Blades, Alex Bledsoe's Eddie LaCrosse, Shawn Speakman's The Dark Thorn, Gateways, and Clive Barker's The Books of Blood

JANUARY 8-14, 2014: This week the name of the game is "fantasy", though near-future noir (Shovel Ready), the latest Peter Clines (Ex-Purgatory, read by Jay Snyder), classic sf from Asimov (read by Scott Brick) and Vonda McIntyre (read by Gayle Hendrix), and most singularly the Frederik Pohl tribute anthology Gateways (read by the voice of Pohl's Gateway, Oliver Wyman) do make for a more diverse range of offerings. But the lion's share of my picks this week? There are swords, there are blades, there are

Release Week: The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Lexicon, Wisp of a Thing, Before the Fall, The Indigo Pheasant, Dark Eden, and Ken Scholes' Requiem

Posted on 2013-06-19 at 15:45 by Sam

JUNE 12-18, 2013: Well, there's no question on the most-anticipated title this week, Neil Gaiman's first novel for adults since 2005: The Ocean at the End of the Lane: A Novel. But there's also a cerebral thriller from Max Barry, one of last year's most missing audiobooks in Chris Beckett's Dark Eden, a trio of second books in a series, and a full-cast narrated book 4 in Ken Scholes' "Psalms of Isaak" series, Requiem. Enjoy! And, not to worry, if (as it is for me) Gaiman's book is the one to most catch your
