August #WhispersyncDeal roundup: Max Gladstone's Craft Sequence, Alex Bledsoe's Wisp of a Thing, Marko Kloos, Alan Cumming, Tim Powers, and much more

Posted on 2016-08-30 at 16:7 by Sam

August is almost over, which means it's #WhispersyncDeal roundup time! Before I get to the regular Monthly Deals in Kindle Books and 50 Kindle Book Deals for $2 Each listings, and the huge list of titles in Audible's "3 years of daily deals" sale, though, a completely separate deal headlines my picks this month:

Per Tor and Tor.com editor Marco Palmieri, Max Gladstone's Craft Sequence is moving from Tor Books to Tor.com Publishing, and the series-wide $4.99 sale continues through August. The bad news is

Whispersync Deals: Pierce Brown's Red Rising and Sarah Fine's Guardians of the Shadowlands series

Posted on 2014-04-08 at 15:17 by Sam

Tuesday, April 8, 2014: While it's not in the Kindle Daily Deal listings, Pierce Brown's Red Rising has been on sale for $1.99 in Kindle for at least the past day or so, with a $4.49 Whispersync for Voice upgrade to the Audible edition, read by Tim Gerard Reynolds for Recorded Books. Released in late January 2014 and a NY Times bestseller, the book is pitched as "Ender, Katniss, and now Darrow" by Scott Sigler. Well, now. The first in a new series: "Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color

Whispersync Deal Roundup: Patrick Rothfuss, Jonathan Maberry, Ben H. Winters, Gail Z. Martin, and more

Posted on 2014-03-21 at 20:30 by Sam

Friday, March 21, 2014: Well, since my last big roundup (based on SFSignal's excellent monthly peek into discount Kindle listings) a new crop of titles to check out has gone on sale in a slightly roundabout way. Let's follow the chain:

  • Barnes & Noble launched a Nook First in Series promotion, placing a whole bunch of "first in a series" ebooks on sale
  • Amazon.com's price matching brings the Kindle price down to match
  • Some of those titles have pretty nice Whispersync upgrade prices to the Audible edition

Audible's "Begin at the Beginning" sale, including Tad Williams, Richard Kadrey, Mira Grant, Paolo Bacigalupi, and more

Posted on 2014-02-11 at 18:37 by Sam

Running through February 19, Audible.com's Begin at the Beginning sale on first books in a series includes 206 books all priced at $4.95. Now, 206 titles is a pretty long list. Here's what caught my eye, with covers and "PICK:" notations for the ones I really recommend, which include Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan, Gene Wolfe's Shadow of the Torturer, Mira Grant's Feed, Richard Kadrey's Sandman Slim, Paolo Bacigalupi's Shipbreaker, Tad Williams' The Dirty Streets of Heaven, and Michael J. Sullivan's The Crown

JANUARY 22-28, 2014: Another huge week of releases, from the old and long missing (One Hundred Years of Solitude and Xenogenesis), to the new (The Secret of Magic, Red Rising, and Hang Wire), to alternate history and other bits around the edges, to a fantastic new multi-voice production of Janis Ian's Stars anthology. Release Week: David Niall Wilson's Killer Green, Martha Wells' Razor's Edge, Hugh Howey's Dust, and Tim Lebbon's London Eye

Posted on 2013-10-02 at 14:25 by Sam

SEPTEMBER 25-OCTOBER 1, 2013: After two weeks of huge releases to end September, October tiptoes in with a quieter slate, though with a quite loud (to me) "missing in audio" title, Ann Leckie's space opera Ancillary Justice. Still, some intriguing releases this week to check out, whether it's unique noir/sf mashup, a new Star Wars tie-in, the conclusion of Hugh Howey's Wool series, or Tim Lebbon's take on a toxic, blasted London. Enjoy!

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

Release day: some Recorded Books titles come a bit earlier than expected

Posted on 2012-08-09 at 14:4 by Sam

I wasn’t expected this to arrive until September 1, but Recorded Books has just released a very anticipated fantasy audiobook: Heir of Novron: Riyria Revelations, Book 3 By Michael J. Sullivan, Narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds — Length:31 hrs and 49 mins:

On the heels of Theft of Swords: Riyria Revelations, Book 1 (March) and Rise of Empire: Riyria Revelations, Book 2 (May), both wonderfully narrated by Reynolds: “A rising star in the fantasy genre, Michael J. Sullivan has built an ardent following for his
